Reizan Tanaka

Shakuhachi
Born in Wakayama Prefecture, Tanaka Reizan learned the basics of shakuhachi from his grandfather, Tanaka Reizan I. He also studied under Kawamura Taizan and Kashimoto Yuzan. He graduated from Kinki University's Faculty of Commerce and Economics, and graduated from the 50th NHK Japanese Music Skills Development Association. Tanaka took 1st place in the folk instruments category at the 10th Osaka International Music Competition, highest place in the Japanese music category at the 7th Novy International Music Competition, and the Encouragement Award at the 35th Wakayama Prefecture New Performer Competition. He participated in numerous recordings and is active in a wide range of musical genres. He is a Shihan (master teacher) in the Tozan-ryū.
